"Petržalka v pohybe" (Petržalka in Motion) is a project of the Bratislava-Petržalka district that connects sport, technology, and public space. It was born from a simple question: How can public sports facilities become a more natural part of people’s everyday lives while making daily physical activity easier?

Petržalka has long been investing in the renovation and construction of public sports facilities and was looking for a fair, transparent, and modern way to make them more accessible through digital tools.

Based on feedback from residents, the district set out to create a simple reservation system that would make planning sports activities easier and streamline the management of sports facilities.

One of the outcomes of the Smart Sports Facilities Petržalka hackathon held in November 2024 is the reservation system petrzalkavpohybe.sk. It is a free online tool that offers a modern yet very simple way to book sports facilities in your area and make full use of their potential.

The petrzalkavpohybe.sk reservation system benefits several groups at the same time.

For residents, it offers a simple and transparent way to find available time slots, reserve a sports facility, and be confident that they won’t have to compete for space with another group upon arrival. Reservations are made online and without unnecessary bureaucracy, making sports activities more accessible for families, young people, and recreational athletes.

For the district administration and facility managers, the system provides data on the actual use of sports facilities. This data helps improve planning for maintenance, infrastructure development, and reservation rules. Decisions are therefore based on real insights rather than estimates.

For the community, the project creates a shared space where local government, athletes, coaches, schools, and local clubs come together. The reservation system supports fair use of public space and creates better conditions for regular physical activity.

The petrzalkavpohybe.sk reservation system was designed with a strong focus on user experience, openness, and real value for the people who use sports facilities on a daily basis. It is built on the following key principles.

The interface is designed to be accessible for all age groups. From the first visit to the website to reservation confirmation, the process is clear, straightforward, and free of unnecessary steps.

Fair use of public sports facilities
The system provides a transparent overview of facility availability. Everyone can see when a sports field is free or reserved, which reduces conflicts and enables more balanced use of facilities throughout the day.

Digital management and insights for local government
The data layer gives the district administration a clear overview of how and when sports facilities are used. This supports better planning of capacity, investments, and decisions about where it makes sense to add new features or extend operating hours.

Ready for SMART features
The reservation system is part of the broader SMART Sports Facilities Petržalka concept. In the future, it is designed to integrate with smart lighting, access control systems, and other technologies, allowing facilities to be used longer, more safely, and with less operational burden on staff.

An inclusive solution for the entire community
The project addresses the needs of families with children, young people, recreational athletes, and organized sports clubs alike. The goal is to make physical activity a natural part of everyday life in Petržalka and ensure equal access to sports facilities for everyone.

Petržalka in Motion is not a one-off idea, but a long-term project of the city district focused on developing sports infrastructure with the help of modern technologies. The project brings together sports facility experts, technology partners, and the local community.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic under the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic, Component 17 Digital Slovakia, Investment Hackathons. The Smart Sports Facilities Petržalka hackathon created a space where ideas, practical experience, and technological know-how came together, resulting in concrete prototypes ready for use in real urban environments.
