My Data

The third Hacknime.to hackathon, funded by Slovakia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, focused on identifying innovative digital solutions that leverage the government’s My Data API. Its goal was to demonstrate how data already provided by citizens to public authorities can be used to simplify communication with government offices, automate form completion, and streamline a wide range of life situations and administrative processes.

The project resulted in a website template that can be used by public administration institutions and local governments to publish open data. A key feature of the solution is the automated creation and updating of a local open data catalog containing metadata about datasets, data services, and the catalog itself. This metadata is then automatically shared with the central open data catalog on the data.slovensko.sk portal, making it accessible to users not only in Slovakia but across Europe.

The solution is built on the European DCAT-AP standard, which enables the easy publication and sharing of datasets. At the same time, it offers a high degree of flexibility, allowing institutions to customize individual components according to their specific needs. Currently, Slovakia has published more than 20,000 datasets on the European open data portal data.europa.eu. Technically, the solution is implemented as a WordPress plugin and theme, with outputs published in RDF format, one of the standardized semantic data formats.
