Implemented project:
A Digital and Paperless Public Office

The goal of the eighth hackathon organized by the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic (MIRRI SR) and financed from the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic was to create an innovative solution to streamline the processes of creating, managing, and monitoring the lifecycle of documents within the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region (BBSK).

The expected outcome was a simpler access to the regional administration’s documents, a user-friendly interface for internal employees, and improved digital services for citizens. “Innovation is something we have long supported in our region, and I’m glad that MIRRI has provided us with the opportunity to find an innovative solution. The aim of the hackathon is to develop a digital document management system tailored specifically to our office,” said the President of BBSK, Ondrej Lunter, before the event.

BBSK Modernized Its Document Management System Based on Hackathon Solutions

The so-called Document Management System (DMS) is a modern digital solution that significantly simplifies and clarifies document handling within the regional office and its organizations.

The system is designed for all BBSK employees – from administrators and the legal department to general users. Each user has access to documents according to their role, with the ability to comment, approve, or familiarize themselves with legal acts.

What Benefits Does the New Digital Solution Bring?

  • Unified Environment – for recording, creating, and approving documents
  • Transparent Document Lifecycle – from draft through review to publication
  • Process Simplification – documents are created from templates, approved electronically, and published automatically
  • Increased Transparency – every step is recorded, ensuring full auditability
Better Accessibility – the system is available online and on mobile devices
  • Integration with Microsoft Active Directory – users log in using their work accounts

Automation and Efficient Data Exchange Through Integration with External Systems

  • Central Register of Contracts – automatic publication of contracts
  • Electronic Registry System – for signing and sending contracts to the other party, preferably in electronic form
  • SharePoint – internal publication of legal and normative management acts
